Classes & Consultations

I occasionally teach gardening skills to individuals and groups in a variety of ways. If you would like to be on my email list for upcoming classes and workshops, or discuss any of the following with me, please contact me.
(1) Gardening classes. My gardening classes usually meet for three or four weekday evenings. I share as handouts much of the information that I’ve put on this website, and then go deeper into various topics, bring in demonstration materials, and answer people’s specific questions.
(2) Gardening workshops. I occasionally offer a one-time workshop on a specific topic, such as pruning rhododendrons.
(3) Garden consultations. I sometimes do garden consultations, if the garden is nearby and I have time in my schedule. I go to someone’s house, spend an hour or two going around their entire yard with them, ask about their images and goals and unformed dreams, give some advice along the way, and then go home and write up a detailed report for them. The whole process usually takes two to four hours.
(4) Pruning. I occasionally do careful pruning for people, especially of rhododendrons and azaleas. It is easy to find people who can use power tools to shape a hedge, and I won’t do that sort of work. But if you have a big overgrown rhodie, you might want to talk with someone like me.
