Environmentalism

Ibrahim Abdul-Matin, Green Deen: What Islam Teaches About Protecting the Planet (2010). The Arabic word deen or din can be translated as either “religion” or “way of life,” and Abdul-Matin argues that a Muslim way of life necessarily includes being a steward for God’s creation, the earth. Drawing on both traditional Muslim ideas and theology and his own experiences as an African-American environmentalist, Abdul-Matin seeks to inspire and inform Muslim readers. The book’s introduction is by Keith Ellison, the first Muslim member of Congress.
